Literacy in today’s world, everything from job applications to school updates to paying bills happens online. But if technology feels confusing or out of reach—you’re not alone. This month, we’re focusing on digital literacy: what it means, why it matters, and how to get support.
What is digital literacy? It’s the ability to use the internet, smartphones, and computers safely and confidently. Whether you’re sending an email, applying for benefits, or helping your kids with schoolwork, digital literacy helps make life easier.
Digital technology is a social determinant of health that affects older people’s ability to engage in health maintenance and disease prevention activities; connect with family and friends; and, more generally, age in place. Unfortunately, disparities in technology adoption and use exist among older adults compared with other age groups and are even greater among low-income older adults.
Throughout the month of April, we will be focusing on helping you access the tools you need to make the most of the amazing technology around us.
We wish you good health and much happiness.
