Welcome to July and summer in full swing!
Some of you may remember the days when phones had a rotary dial, paying bills meant buying stamps, and a doctor’s visit was in an office. Times have changed! And most of those changes are helpful if we know how to make the most of them. July is our Digital Inclusion month at UNPHC EdX, and we have some great things to talk about. Digital Inclusion simply means getting online, with a good device, and accessing the internet to make your life a bit more simple.
We’ve said it before, but we will say it again…Digital inclusion is a 3 step process.
Step 1: Access to a computer (preferably not your phone)
Step 2: Internet Access
Step 3: Digital Literacy (knowing how to use the internet, and your computer)
The ACP program, formerly the EBB program, can help. It offers up to $100 for providing devices to eligible households and will discount up to $30 off of your internet. In many cases, it will be provided for FREE. FREE INTERNET!!
There are two steps to enroll:
- Go to AffordableConnectivity.gov to submit an application or print out a mail-in application.
- Contact your preferred participating provider to select a plan and have the discount applied to your bill.
Our friends at PC’s for people can help you with a new device:

Digital Literacy: The basics. Now that you have a cool new Chromebook, or have gotten a great new PC with your ACP rebate, let’s get online! Starting with, how to turn it on and off, closing tabs, unmuting that zoom call…the basics of digital literacy can feel clumsy, but- it’s the first step in being savvy around a keyboard. Our libraries are a great resource for getting basic digital literacy as well as connecting to resources and programs to support your digital adventure. Go here to find a library near you, and what programs they might offer.
Salt Lake City Public Library: Part of the Library’s offering is the “Tech League” to identify who in our community lacks Internet access and to bring the Library’s resources and tools to those individuals to foster independence, connection, and success in our digital world.
